Role and Context

The Group Technology department drives technology innovation, coordination and expert support for the OpCos.  The main role is to work closely with the business (i.e., Commercial, Sourcing, Finance, etc.) to provide efficient and timely solutions to business requirements.

Group Technology ensures that solutions are ‘fit for purpose’ in order for the group to achieve its stated strategic aims, revenue and profit targets by enabling synergies across the Group Operating Entities.

The incumbent will lead a team of Group Level Experts to assist individual operating companies (OpCos) in the development of the overall Transport & Infrastructure Technology managed services and network sharing Strategy and its dissemination within the group to develop Transport & Infrastructure Technology planning, process, architecture and roadmap.

The role holder maintains close contact with CTOs at the operating companies and works closely with other members of the technology teams to drive the overall vision, technology road maps, and world-class network architectures to enable capital efficient network plans.

 

Role Accountabilities

  • Lead the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future Transport & Infrastructure Technology managed services and network sharing strategies
  • Lead the development of Group-level Transport & Infrastructure Technology managed services and network sharing roadmaps, architectures and engineering practices ensuring alignment with Group strategic vision
  • Closely collaborates with other members of the technology team to drive overall technology vision, road maps, world-class architectures, and enable capital efficient technology plans.
  • Lead Group-wide synergy and harmonization initiatives in Transport & Infrastructure Technology, managed services and network sharing
  • Transfer best-practice solutions planning and design techniques to the OpCos in line with Group preferred practices, architectures and roadmaps
  • Coordinate with Group Strategic Sourcing for driving synergies, valuation of bids, and selecting vendors; provide technical expertise.
  • Develop strategic relationships with key vendors
  • Provide Group-level expertise in Transport & Infrastructure Technologies managed services and network sharing covering strategy, planning & engineering
  • Deliver Group functional requirements for Transport & Infrastructure Technology
  • Contribute to relevant expert groups & centres of excellence in Transport & Infrastructure Technology domain
  • Participate in reviewing OpCos’ strategic plans and budgets as a technical expert (participate in development also if requested)
  • Support OpCos in resolving Transport & Infrastructure Technology managed services and network sharing related issues, as required, and as per the defined framework for Group involvement in the OpCos
  • Support in M&A technology due diligence
  • Participate in the formulation of strategic and operational governance processes of Group Technology as a member of the senior management team.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and technical expertise to the global organization and own team in order to embed best practices within Communication & IT across the Group

Experience

  • 15 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Previous OpCo CIO/CTO or equivalent key Group-Technology role in the mobile telecom industry and prior experience in fixed telecom International experience, preferably in the MENA region
  • Vast experience with developing & executing Transport & Infrastructure Technology, managed services and network sharing strategies
  • Vast knowledge of key telecom Transport & Infrastructure Technology, managed services and network sharing, industry best practices in strategy, Management, processes, architecture and infrastructure
  • High level of awareness regarding changes in technology standards and their repercussions for the Group and Transport & Infrastructure Technology operating companies
  • Experience in developing and implementing technology strategies, and establishing and maintaining strategic relationships
  • Strong understanding of business requirements and ability to translate those into impact on the Transport & Infrastructure Technology, managed services and network sharing Landscape.

 

Qualifications

  • Technology Degree - Major Telecommunications
  • Preferred MBA or E-MBA
  • International experience, preferably in the MENA and SEA regions
  • Fluent in English – Arabic/French a plus
