Ooredoo also receives ‘The People’s Choice Award for Telecommunications following a Popular Vote
Ooredoo was awarded 21 International Business Awards (IBAs), the leading global recognition of company performance and best practices, as well as ‘The People’s Choice Award’ in the telecommunications category, at a high-profile ceremony held in Rome, Italy, this week.
The International Business Awards, also known as the ‘Stevies’, honour the achievements and positive contributions of organisations around the world, receiving entries from more than 60 countries. This is the fourth year in a row that Ooredoo has been recognised by the awards, with judges citing Ooredoo’s success in integrating business innovation and the development of market-leading products with its strong community-focused approach.
With 2016’s impressive results, Ooredoo has now been among the awards’ top ten most highly-recognised companies for three years running.
Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, Group CEO, Ooredoo, said: “Ooredoo’s strong performance at this year’s International Business Awards demonstrates once again that we are taking the lead in network performance, digital innovation and supporting the needs of our customers. We believe that cutting-edge networks help enrich people’s lives and we’re proud and pleased that our efforts across our footprint have been recognised by these awards for another year.”
Ooredoo received awards across its operations in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia, including two Gold Stevie Awards – the highest honours of the evening.
The first Gold was for “Best application – News,” won by Ooredoo Myanmar’s ‘Bindez Tha Din’, a news aggregation application that provides access to a wealth of localised and real-time reports in Myanmar’s native language, which has received a strong response in the information-hungry country.
The company’s second Gold Stevie award was for the “Best Investor Relations Site” for the Ooredoo Group IR site. Ooredoo also received “The People’s Choice Award” in the Telecommunications category, based on a worldwide public vote conducted over summer.
Ooredoo received an additional five Silver Stevie Awards, including “Company of the Year – Telecoms” for Ooredoo Qatar, “Customer Service Department of the Year” for Ooredoo Myanmar; “Best Interface Design” for Ooredoo’s ‘Stand for Good’ Microsite, “Best New Product of Service of the Year – Financial Services” for Ooredoo Mobile Money, and “Communications or PR Campaign of the Year – Social Media Focused” for Ooredoo Qatar.
Ooredoo also won 14 Bronze Stevie Awards across a range of areas, including “Best Website” “Corporate Social Responsibility Programme of the Year” and “PR Campaign of the Year”.
The Stevie Awards are the world's premier business awards. They were created in 2002 to honour and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organisations and working professionals worldwide. Known as "the International Stevies," the IBAs are open to all organisations worldwide: large and small, public and private, for-profit and non-profit. The 2016 competition attracted more than 3,800 nominations from organisations of all types, in more than 60 nations.
